It is always difficult to plan a Meal instantly- be it a normal day when someone is visiting, during a festival, for a get-together, or on any occasion. If the meal is planned a day in advance, its easy to get the required items and cook on that day! This is the whole idea behind posting meal ideas on our blog for various occasions.

Normal Day Meal

Meal ideas for a normal day- when some guests or a friend is visiting you. Or may be you want to plan a special meal for yourself and family.

Sankashti Chaturthi

Sankashti is an auspicious day which is dedicated to Lord Ganesha and Angarki Sankashti Chaturthi is considered highly auspicious among all Sankashti days. Devotees fast during these days and break their fast at night after seeing the moon and praying lord Ganesha. It is assumed that, by doing so lord Ganesha will fulfill the devotees wishes.

Sweet like Modak is made to offer Lord Ganesha. Other sweet dishes such as Payasam/Kheer are made to have after breaking the fast.

Nag Panchami

Nagara Panchami, festival of snakes is celebrated in Shravana month (July/August) in India. It is believed that Lord Krishna saved the lives of people by defeating the Kaliya snake.On this day people do arti to the snake idols at home and go to Naga temples to worship them. Milk is offered to the snakes and it is believed that they will safeguard the family from all evils. Many people fast on this day. Sweets like Patholi/Kadubu is prepared on this day.

Ganesh Chaturthi

Ganesha Chaturthi is celebrated as the birthday of Lord Ganesha. This festival is celebrated with lots of joy and devotion. People get Ganesha Idols and perform pooja at home. It is considered that on this day Lord Ganesha comes to the earth to give blessings to his devotees. Lord Ganesha is the God of power and wisdom. We pray to Lord Ganesha before starting any new venture and it is considered to be very fortunate.

This festival is celebrated for 10 days but some of them wind up the worship in a day or two. On the last day, the Ganesha Idol is immersed in the water body like rivers, lakes, or wells. While going for the immersion, people say “Ganapathi Bappa Morya Purcha Varshi Laukarya” which means asking lord ganpathi to come soon next year to bless us again.

Sweets like Modak is made during this festival. It is said that Modak is Lord Ganesha’s favorite sweet. People offer 21 Modaks to Lord Ganesha. Another sweet that is also made is Nevri.

Deepawali

Deepawali, festival of lights- represents triumph of good over evil. Its a popular Hindu festival, honoring Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth. We clean the house, light diyas and burst crackers. Variety of sweets and snacks are made during this festival to share with family and friends.
