Upma (Konkani: Upittu)

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Rava
  • 1 Onion
  • 2 tbsp Ghee
  • 1 tsp Sugar
  • 2 cups Water
  • Salt according to your taste

Seasoning:

  • 1 tbsp Ghee
  • 1 tsp Mustard
  • 1 tsp Urad Dal
  • 2 Green Chilies
  • 6-7 Curry Leaves
  • Coriander Leaves

Method:

  1. Take 1 tbsp Ghee in a Kadai.
  2. Add Rava and saute it for 10 minutes till you get a nice aroma from the Rava. Keep this aside.

  3. Boil two cups of Water and add Salt.
  4. Add 1 tbsp Ghee in the Kadai. Add Green Chilies, Urad Dal, and Mustard. Allow the Mustard to splutter, and then add Curry Leaves.
  5. Add the chopped Onion. Saute it till it becomes translucent.

  6. Add Rava.

  7. Add boiled water and keep stirring till it becomes thick.

  8. Add Coriander Leaves and Sugar on the top.
  9. Close it with a lid and keep it on low flame for 5 minutes.
  10. Tasty Upma (Uppitu) is ready! Serve it with Mixture or Sev.

    Tip: You can add grated Carrot before Step 6 and saute it for 2 min and then follow rest of the steps to get colorful Carrot Upma.
